Filipina actress Liza Soberano has slipped from first place to number four in this year’s ‘100 Most Beautiful Faces in the World’ list.
The 20-year-old was the highest placed Filipina in the list released by TC Candler’s The Independent Critics organisation.
The top three this year were Israel’s Yael Shelbia, K-pop star Chou Tzuyu, and French model Thylane Blondeau.
Two other Filipinas are on the list: Jessy Mendiola at 55th place and Nadine Lustre at 70th.
Liza Soberano — who is best known for playing super-heroine Darna — topped the list last year, and has featured in the top 100 four times so far.
“What originally started off as a small project has grown into a yearly internet phenomenon. In recent years, the list has garnered over three billion social media impressions and hundreds of millions of views. It is widely considered to be the most internationally recognised and prestigious list of its kind,” TC Candler posted on Youtube.
Women from 40 different countries are featured on the list, with the organisation aiming to include well-known stars with new faces. The highest-placed new arrival was Britain’s Banita Sandhu, who made her debut at number 10.
Other women who made it in the Top 10 were:
5 Audreyana Michelle (2nd appearance)
6 Im Jin-ah aka Nana (Hall of Famer, 6th appearance)
7 Hande Ercel (2nd appearance)
8 Oktyabrina Maximova (3rd appearance)
9 Lalisa Manoban aka Lisa (3rd appearance)
Meanwhile, in its counterpart list for male stars, Aquaman star Jason Momoa took the top spot in “The 100 Most Handsome Faces of 2018”.
James Reid and Daniel Matsunaga were two local artists included. Reid, Lustre’s boyfriend, placed 21st while Matsunaga was 39th.
The Independent Critics, which was founded by UK film reviewer TC Candler, say that the criteria for the perfect face is more than just “aesthetic perfection”. According to the organisation’s website, it’s also about “grace, elegance, originality, daring, passion, class, poise, joy, promise, hope… they are all embodied in a beautiful face.”
