A 70-year-old Korean man is dead and his wife injured after a speeding jeepney hit the two in La Paz district of Iloilo City on Sunday.

Kwon Young Kwui and Young Ae Lee had just stepped out of the St. Clements Redemptorist Church on Luna Street when they were hit.

Kwon died while undergoing treatment at St Paul’s Hospital, his wife, Young, suffered head and leg injuries.

Police say that the couple have lived in Guimaras since 2011.

The jeepney driver, 34-year-old Eddie Demavivas surrendered at the La Paz police station.

Demavivas will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries.
