Kjartan Sekkingstad, a Norwegian and the last of the Samal Island hostages, has plead for his life after Abu Sayyaf made a phone call to DXRZ Radio Mindanao Network station in Zamboanga City on Monday.
Mr Sekkingstad said: “It’s very hard and dangerous to stay here.” He went on to beg his government and the government of the Philippines to find a way to free him.
Abu Sayyaf beheaded both John Ridsdel, and Robert Hall in April and June, while Marites Flor was released from captivity on June 24 after negotiations with presidential peace adviser, Jesus Dureza.
The call came after Abu Sayyaf said they would kill Mr Sekkingstad on Monday after Mr Dureza said that the Philippines does not negotiate with terrorist organisations.
Abu Rami, a spokesman for Abu Sayyaf has said the rebels will behead the Norwegian on July 9 if their ransom demands are not met.
Monday’s call also was part of a ‘temporary stay of execution’ for the hostage after a representative of Mr Dureza called to negotiate.
As of this date, Abu Sayyaf is holding seven Indonesian Sailors, five Filipinos and Elwood Horn, a Dutchman.
