A jeepney driver has been arrested for his part in extorting money from a local accountant.
29-year-old Cristina Turla, an accountant at Super Care Medical Services Inc. of Quezon City told police that 37-year-old Marcus Aurelius Navarros was extorting money from her after she was accused of running over Navarros’ right foot.
This after Navarros saw Turla was being pulled over by police for a traffic violation on March 12. Moments later the suspect approached her and accused her of hitting him in the foot, he demanded 5,000 pesos. To avoid any trouble, Turla paid the man.
However, on March 19 Navarro demanded 11,200 pesos to be paid in installments of 800 pesos per day along with a 3,000 peso lump sum.
Turla took the matter up with the police who set up an entrapment operation and arrested the suspect in Ermita where he and the victim had agreed to meet.
Navarros will be charged with estafa and swindling.
