Indian moneylender gunned down in Lapu-Lapu City

A 42-year-old Indian who operated a lending business was shot several times on Monday evening in Sitio Abuno, Barangay Pajac in Lapu-Lapu City.

Jaswinder Singh Gill, a temporary resident of the barangay, died on the spot even before police investigators and the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation could arrive in the area.

Homicide investigator Joseph Rouel Cutanda found 170,000 pesos intact in the pocket of Gill’s pants.

The victim, who hails from Mallian Khurd Village in Jalandhar, India, came from collecting money, police said. While he was driving his motorcycle, two unidentified suspects onboard another motorcycle followed Gill and fired at him from behind.

The suspects hurriedly fled from the scene, leaving Gill lifeless on the ground.

Cutanda said the shooting may be related to the business the victim was running.

Recovered from the crime scene were five fired bullets a .45 calibre pistol.

Police are now conducting follow-up investigation to try to locate the suspects.
