The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is urging undocumented Filipino workers in the country to take advantage of the Malaysian government’s ongoing rehiring programme.
The programme aims to provide undocumented workers in Malaysia with valid work permits – not only to fill in labour vacancies in several sectors, but to also get Filipinos into legal status within the country.
“Qualified Filipino employees in Malaysia who have irregular status are highly encouraged to work with their employers to register under the Malaysian Government’s Rehiring Programme from February 15 to June 30,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J Eduardo Malaya said in a statement. Filipino workers can avail the ‘Rehiring Programme’ may do so with the assistance of the Philippine Embassy in KL.
The programme is aimed at those who overstayed on a temporary employment basis and are working with the same employer – it is also available to those who overstayed with an employment visa but with a different employer.
Those who entered Malaysia under a social visit pass, or tourist visa, or those working with an employer for six months before the start of the program can use the programme too.
