Tech giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it has set a target to take control of at least 50 per cent of all the smartwatch sales being marketed in the Philippines.

“We’re looking at, hopefully, a good half of the market already for the high-end smartwatches in one to two years,” said Nino Caradang, head of the Mobile Broadband and Wearable division of Huawei.

The Chinese based firm launched its Huawei Watch, which is compatible with both iOS and Android, in the Philippines.

The smartwatch can receive SMS, e-mail, calendar settings, apps, and phone call notifications.

“This is the first smartwatch in the Huawei wearable family and is also the first watch on the market that truly bridges the gap between fashion and technology,”

“As part of our expanding line of premium wearable products, the Huawei Watch was designed and created to enhance and be part of the consumer’s everyday lives. It is our response to consumers’ requests who are looking for a smartwatch that combines timeless design and truly usable features,”

Huawei notes its pride is producing smartwatches that are “worth wearing,” with designs that revel the best in the market.

The company expects the use of wearable smartwatches, and phone sales to grow by double digits in stores within the Philippines by 2016.

Huawei’s revenue grew by a massive 106% from 2014 to 2015 due to increased retail presence, as well as partnering with local telecommunication companies to boost their brand to the public.
