Hidden Beach in El Nido, Palawan, has been named as the best in Asia — and the third best in the world — by a Canada-based travel website.
The beach was given the accolade by Flight Network following consultations with more than 600 travel journalists, editors, bloggers and tourism companies.
Describing the beach, Sachin Aggarwal, of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, said: “The wild, vegetation-covered rock formations and crystal clear waters of Hidden Beach will make you feel as if you’ve been dropped into a movie.”
It also took the number three spot on the site’s list of the world’s top beaches. behind Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos, Greece, and Whitehaven Bay in Australia.
Hidden Beach ‘magnificent’
Describing it, the website said: “You can distinguish this tropical, white sand, postcard-perfect beach from the rest by one magnificent trait — those unmistakable, protruding limestone cliffs. Shooting out of the turquoise-blue lagoon straight to the sky, they draw your eyes away from the magnificent reefs and palm-lined shores. Until somewhat recently, the only ones flocking to the remote El Nido island were the swiftlets who nest in the cliffs — hence the name El Nido, which means ‘nest’ in Spanish. Now, all those who visit enjoy breathtaking views and world-class diving by day and luxurious resorts by night.”
Other Philippine beaches that made it into the top 50 in Asia list are:
- Guyam White Sand Beach in Siargao (13)
- Palaui Beach in Cagayan Valley (22)
- Caramoan Island Beach in Camarines Sur (29)
- Dahican Beach in Mati, Davao Oriental (41)
- Gumasa Beach in Sarangani (45)
- Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol (46)
- Kalanggaman Island in Cebu (49)
- Paliton Beachin Siquijor (50)
Flight Network said that its Top 50 Beaches list for Asia “offers those that have a taste for adventure, balanced by ultimate relaxation, all the needed insight to plan an unforgettable beach-side journey”.
