Newly discovered giant swimming centipede bites – and is venomous

A rare, never before seen centipede has been found in Southeast Asia. The new discovery has been named Scolopendra cataracta, and can reach up to 20 centimeters in length.

The giant swimming centipede is carnivorous, venomous, and is the first identified as being capable of living both in water and on land.

Recently the centipede was cataloged in the ZooKeys Journal and now will be part of their collection.

The critter can deliver a painful bite, with fangs that can easily pierce human skin. Those bitten experience a burning sensation, one which can affect the entire limb. However, the bite is not fatal.
