A group of thieves, led by a police officer, have been arrested for stealing six tons of pineapples.
PO3 Edwin Tabamo and his nine accomplices were arrested in the heist – it was later discovered that some of the cohorts were also involved in selling shabu.
Office Tabamo is from the Police Regional Office #12 in General Santos City (Gensan).
An investigation into the matter said that local citizens confirmed that the group had been harvesting the pineapples over the past five months at several Dole plantations in the region.
Polomolok police and the 27th Infantry Battalion cornered the men when they managed to locate them inside the plantation on Tuesday.
In the raid, police confiscated assorted firearms, shabu, drug paraphernalia, picked pineapples and a van with heavy tinted windows.
Officials said the group will be charged with theft, possession of illegal guns and illegal drugs. Tabamo will be dismissed from the Philippines National Police force through official administrative proceedings.
