Police have arrested a fugitive Bangladeshi who is wanted in three countries around the world.
49-year-old Asif Iqbal Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday in Cagayan de Oro City by Provincial Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Forces.
Born in Barisal, Bangladesh, Ahmed arrived in the Philippines in 2015 – he is currently wanted on felony charges in the United States, the Philippines and Bangladesh.
Police in Cagayan de Oro said they arrested Ahmed after he stepped out of his rented apartment in Lapasan.
Authorities said they had been monitoring him after Interpol alerted them of his presence in the country.
Police say Ahmed continued his human trafficking activities throughout the time he was in Cagayan de Oro.
Interpol said the suspect was wanted for a triple murder in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1991. He was arrested on a warrant issued by Interpol and the Bureau of Immigration.
In Bangladesh, the suspect is facing charges of human trafficking and is noted in Interpol as a ‘seasoned trafficker.’
