The father of a former Miss World Philippines reportedly shot himself in the mouth inside a police station after being arrested on drug charges.

Chief Inspector Billy Mangali, Solano police chief, said three sachets of shabu were allegedly seized from Mr Parungao.

A police report said he later grabbed the Glock 9mm pistol of his escort moments after his handcuffs had been removed when he complained of chest pains.

Police records show that Mr Parungao yielded to Oplan Tokhang last year.

Police are awaiting the result of an autopsy on the remains of Mr Parungao, who was said to have died immediately.

On her Facebook account, his daughter yesterday posted a short status that read: “I love you, always and forever,” alongside a collage of four photos as a tribute to her father.

Intriguingly, on March 3 she had written an enigmatic status update saying: “Premonitions are real.”
