Police stopped the 11 women from flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Kalibo police’s Women and Children Protection Desk said the women are now staying at the Aklan Center for Women. The women are said to be from various provinces and had been staying at a Kalibo hotel before they were to board a plane.

Police received an anonymous tip and this prompted Kalibo police to dispatch a team to the hotel, alongside personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Interior and Local Government .

“When we came to the hotel, the women tried to escape and boarded a tricycle. But they were eventually cornered by the authorities,” said authorities.

DSWD-Aklan is currently processing the necessary documents for the 11 women to return home to their respective provinces.

Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing as to the group behind the alleged trafficking of the women.
