Every Filipina’s favourite foreigner — singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran — is returning to the Philippines.

The British musician, who once described the Philippines as his “biggest market in the world” will perform in Manila on November 7.

The concert will be his second in the country, after he packed out Manila’s SM Mall of Asia Arena in March 2015.

Addressing the enthusiastic capacity crowd he said: “This is my first trip to the Philippines and it definitely won’t be my last. This has been an amazing night!”

His website announced today (Wednesday, May 10) that he is adding more countries, including the Philippines, to the Asia leg of his world tour.

The site said that details about ticket prices and venue information would follow soon.

He started his ÷ “Divide” Tour in March, and is performing in dozens of countries across the world.

His Manila gig will follow a two-night appearance in Hong Kong on November 4 and 5 before he heads to Jakarta.

At the end of the 2015 tour that brought him to Manila, Sheeran announced he was taking a break.

In an interview with BBC Radio, the singer said he went travelling to countries where he was little known. “I never really saw anything other than a hotel room, a venue and a bar while touring, so I wanted to go travelling properly,” he said.

“No one really cares about me in Japan. I specifically picked places that I wasn’t really liked.”

But that plan didn’t work out. Towards the end of his year-off, Sheeran set up a recording studio in a cruise ship, hoping for some peaceful creative time.

However, he didn’t bank on the majority of staff being Filipinos. He said: “My biggest market in the world is the Philippines and every staff member on the boat was Filipino, so I just had a wave of people come to my room every five minutes asking for selfies. I spent my whole time taking pictures with Filipino people.”
