A picture of patience…

A Dutchman has been hospitalised after he decided to fly to China to be with his online girlfriend.

41-year-old Alexander Pieter Cirk flew to Changsha, China to meet 26-year-old Zhang – his online love.

Cirk flew to China and waited in the airport for Zhang to fetch him, but she didn’t come – and he waited, and waited, and waited, and…

After 10 days waiting Cirk became severely dehydrated and exhausted – with a pinch of depression no doubt.

Photographs of Cirk started to make rounds on social media as people began to see him sitting on his bench every day, patiently waiting for his online girlfriend – but to his and those watching, it all ended in despair.

Zhang never came, and Cirk was rushed to the hospital.

Chinese TV Channel Hunan heard about the story and decided to call up Zhang and ask her why she was a no-show after the Dutchman came so far to meet her.

She told a reporter that she thought the entire thing was a joke, that he told her he was coming but she did not believe him.

Zhang said: “We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me.”

“One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly and I thought it was a joke. He didn’t contact me later.”

When Cirk arrived in China he tried to message Zhang, but she was offline because she said “she had travelled to another city for plastic surgery”.

Heartbroken Cirk through thick and thin, booked his return ticket back to the Netherlands and was due to be released from the hospital to board his flight home.

But Zhang gave Cirk a little piece of hope, saying she would gladly meet him after she healed from her plastic surgery.

No word if Cirk will continue the relationship with his online girlfriend or if the 10-day waiting period was all he could handle.
