Tawi-Tawi’s famous mountain peak, Bud Bongao, will soon receive a 54-million peso boost to help it become a tourist destination.

The Department of Public Works and Highways made the announcement last week. The money will be spent on building an access road into the site.

“We should develop and enhance our tourism spots so that the people whether local or international tourists—can see the beauty of our tourism sites like this Bud Bongao that offers majestic view to the visitors,” said a local official.

In all, the 54.32-million pesos will be allocated for a clubhouse, view decks, 14 waiting sheds, a parking lot, a water system and a concrete access road.

Among the attractions are a wide range of wild orchids and monkeys that are said to serve as guardians of the Tampat, or graveyards of holy men buried atop of the mountain.

The groups involved in the project will develop and install improvements on the Muslim shrines on the top of the mountain.
