A 53-year-old Danish architect-businessman was arrested Thursday after he and a 16-year-old girl were caught at the Cebu South Bus Terminal by agents investigating alleged human trafficking.
Schibbye Peter Sten will face charges of child abuse and human trafficking after being caught with the girl (her name is being withheld due to her age).
Personnel from the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking saw the two walking with one another at the port. They then followed them until they reached the bus terminal. They then sought the assistance of an on-duty officer and had the Danish man arrested.
Both Sten and the minor were about to board a bus for Carcar City when the pair were taken into custody. The minor was taken to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Cebu.
An initial investigation revealed that the foreigner had been living in Bohol with the girl for three days. A lawyer for Sten said the two were not lovers.
The Danish man will face criminal charges in violation of Republic Act 7610 (the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act).
In full, section 10-b states:
