American Daniel Gruen made a desperate plea for mercy after being arrested during a drug raid in Makati this weekend.

A televised report by ABS-CBN showed a fearful and sweat-drenched Daniel Gruen addressing the camera, and saying: “I’m an addict, okay? I need help, okay? I’m not a pusher.”

He was one of 13 suspects taken into custody after the drug bust carried out by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Seized during the raid on J B Roxas Street were sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of 300,000 pesos, drug paraphernalia and a pellet gun.

PDEA director Ismail Fajardo, who led the raid, said the address was used for both selling and using shabu. Officers took action following a number of tip-offs from concerned neighbours.

Meanwhile, other PDEA teams were at work in Parañaque and Valenzuela City, where 22 suspects were arrested in separate buy-bust operations.

No further details about Mr Gruen are available at this time.

We have also reported today how President Duterte has been sharing his no-nonsense approach to drug enforcement with President Trump. During a speech this week, he suggested to the 45th president of the USA that he should throw drug dealers into the Atlantic Ocean. In the past, President Trump has spoken of President Duterte’s anti-drug crackdown in terms of approval.
