The Philippine Army has called out the New People’s Army for continuing to use land mines despite violating international human rights laws.

Military officials have said that the senseless and diabolical use of land mines by Communist guerrillas needs to come to an end.

Officials also say that the NPA continues without remorse, the use of landmines which victimise innocent civilians – saying that the use of such IEDs is an blatant disregard to the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.”

Military officials have pointed out several recent incidents involving landmines in Bukidnon where a barangay councilor and two Army soldiers were critically wounded.

The three men were said to be conduction peace and development activities in the town of Bitaotao, Bukidnon when they were wounded by an IED explosive.
