In a recent and ongoing rash of issues with New People’s Army (NPA) communist guerrillas and numerous attacks in Toril and other remote regions of Davao City, the NPA is now accused of killing a barangay chief in Lamanan, in Calinan district.

The victim has been named as Antonio C Alvaran Jr. His body was found at Sitio Kibaton in barangay Domingo.

Police say Alvaran was kidnapped from his shop in Lamanan at about 3am by three unidentified men riding on a single motorcycle.

“We believed that the victim recognised the three men who fetched him from the store since there was no resistance on his part when he went with them,” noted local police.

Authorities suspecting NPA involvement on the basis of intelligence gathered locally.

Police say Alvaran had received numerous death threats before the incident. Found at the scene of the crime were 18 empty shells including .45 calibre M16 rifle and M14 rifle cartridges.
