The city of Manila has received the prestigious “Most Competitive City Award” for 2015 from the National Competitiveness Council of the Philippines.
Manila City Mayor, Joseph Estrada received the award on behalf of the city. Estrada said he was very happy that independent and outside institutions have been noticing the progress of Manila.
Last year Manila placed eighth in the coveted rating. The top 10 highly urbanised cities in the Philippines include the following:
- Manila City
- Makati City
- Cebu City
- Davao City
- Cagayan de Oro City
- Parañaque City
- Valenzuela City
- Caloocan City
- Iloilo City
Cities were chosen on three categories which were based on several pillars – economic dynamism, infrastructure and government efficiency. Manila also placed in first place for infrastructure.
“This will inspire us even more to work hard for the benefit of Manila residents. We have paid most of the city’s debts, and are now delivering infrastructure and other basic services with the taxes that we are collecting,” Estrada said.
