The replica ark spans a total of five floors and can hold more than 5,000 people at one time. The boat measures 95 feet wide, 410 feet long and stands 75 feet tall on dry dock.

Johan Huibers, a Dutch carpenter, said he began construction of the ark after dreaming about an intense storm that flooded his homeland in the Netherlands.

According to officials, the ark is built in the same standards given in Genesis 6:15, making it precise as possible.

The Bible reads: “And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred and eight cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.

Mr Huibers said he created a measurement scale to use while building the ark by reviewing multiple historical measurement units in various ancient cultures.

Upon completing the ark in 2012, the ship itself became an interactive exhibit focused on the the word of religion and its teaching.

Officials said that the up and coming voyage is still in its planning stages – the foundation intends to sail the ark to multiple port cities in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Uruguay before heading to the United States on its final stop.

A spokesperson for the ark’s travel said that Rio de Janeiro has extended a warm welcome for the ark’s landing – official hope they can reach the city during the Paralympic Games of 2016 which begin on September 7th.
