The National Bureau of Investigation has padlocked Global Visa Inc. based in Cebu, Philippines

The recruitment agency has duped job-seekers worldwide, said Labor Secretary Rosalina Baldoz in her statement this week.

Baldoz said the agency’s parent company, ICS Global Visas Inc. based in the United Kingdom, has collapsed – leaving thousands of applicants without jobs or their money.

The agency is known to operate globally and provides immigration services – but also recruits workers in various countries as well.

“Global Visas was in the limelight this week, following its reported collapse. It has victims here in the Philippines, particularly in Luzon, Cebu and Mindanao,” Baldoz said. Numerous victims in the Cebu region have filed cases of estafa and illegal recruitment against the agency – the NBI expects a massive flow of filed cases to come about after the new broke about the companies demise.

Baldoz reminded Filipinos to only deal with licensed recruitment agents and then only those who have specific job orders – those enticed by ads and brochures are a sure sign that they may be falling into a trap.

The POEA also clarified this week that they are now requiring agencies “and not domestic workers” to have Facebook accounts.
