A Canadian and his Filipina girlfriend were arrested at the Dumaguete City Airport when security officials apparently found a bullet in their luggage on Thursday.
Dale Elder and Nellie Grape were attempting to board a flight to Cebu when security officials claimed to discover a .22 calibre bullet in the sling bag of the the Filipina girlfriend.
The couple were held for questioning by the Office of the Transportation and Security personnel.
The two were questioned by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, but somehow slipped out of the holding area they were waiting in.
NBI officials later arrived at the airport to investigate the matter and notified security at hat the couple went to the Public Attorney’s Office to seek assistance in the matter.
“The NBI officials told us that the couple took the land trip to Cebu on Thursday after asking for their help. But we now have their names. And we now know that they are renting a house in Dumaguete,” said police.
Both NBI agents and Aviation police reviewed CCTV footage and agreed that the bullet was discovered inside the sling bag of the Filipina girlfriend.
Police are saying that the couple were not victims of the laglag-bala bullet planting scheme that took headlines at the NAIA Airport in the later part of 2015.
The same police however noted that they wanted to perform a very thorough investigation into the entire incident, noting that this is the first time a bullet had been discovered at the airport.
Police said that several cases could be filed against the couple.
