This week we reported on the burden Davao City and Mindanao residents are having with long-term and continual rotating blackouts – now Misamis Oriental is suffering the same fate.

Those electrical customers within the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. will begin to experience longer blackouts than normal, this after load limitations being imposed by the National Power Corp.

Napocor has set a limit of 18-megawatt load curtailment pending the approval to purchase an additional 10 megawatts from a new modular diesel power plant operated by Mindanao Energy Systems Inc.

The Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. has a peak deman of 170 megawatts – those limitations are imposed among its franchise area and include the city of Cagayan de Oro as well as the towns of Tagoloan, Villanueva and Jasaan.

This past week, 10-hour blackouts were noted as hitting Santiago City and the town of Ramon in Isabela.

The National Power Corp. said the interruptions are part of an annual preventative maintenance, as well as a testing time for a power transformer sub-station in Santiago City.
