New flight service links Manila with one of the world’s best surf destinations

A renowned surfing destination will become more accessible when a new flight service is launched this month.

Skyjet, a small domestic airline, will start to fly between Manila and Siargao on February 24.

Siargao, a small island to the north of Mindanao, is often known as the Surfers’ Paradise with waves in places averaging at seven feet.

It is also the location of “Cloud Nine” beach, which has been ranked as one of the world’s top 10 surf spots by CNN Go.

During the surf season, from October to May, the beach is renowned for a perfect barreling right hand reef break. However, the presence of razor-sharp coral on the seabed means it’s only recommended for experienced surfers.

The new flights will depart from Manila’s NAIA airport’s Terminal Four at 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The return flights leave Siargao at 8.10am on the same days. Flight time is one hour, 40 minutes.

The airline also offers flights to Basco, Coron and Caticlan. Its BAE-146 80-seat jet is well known for its short take-off and landing capability, making it ideal for short runways on small islands.

The airline also offers all-inclusive packages to locations including Boracay, Batanes and Busuanga.
