Ben’s bargains: Top ten Angeles City hotels for less than 50 bucks

Although the Philippines is notoriously cheap, there’s no reason to sacrifice quality in the search of decent accommodation. Having experienced rooms with no running water and beds crawling with millipedes it definitely pays to do a bit of research before taking the budget option. So, here are my top 10 choices for great accommodation in Angeles City for less than 50 bucks:

10 Score Birds Hotel

Book for the weekend and enjoy the poolside beauty pageants and all-you-can-eat buffets

Just scraping into the sub-$50 dollar bracket (but with frequent reduced-rate offers), Score Birds is tucked away just behind Fields Avenue. The rooms are clean, the staff are super friendly and efficient and the central pool is great place to relax. An added bonus are the beauty pageants held poolside most weekends. The restaurant is pretty good too.

9 Grace Crown Hotel

Nestled in the heart of the action about three minutes away from Fields Avenue, this modern hotel has all the amenities you need and friendly staff that keep it nice and clean. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. With rates from $37 per night, you’ll have money to spare for food, drink or whatever else takes your fancy.

8 Hotel Saleh

Though it has basic amenities, the beds are comfortable and the location fantastic. What really makes this one great for us is the staff. Some of the best customer service you’ll receive in the Philippines and always done with a smile. Even better, rates here start from $16, which in many other places would only get you a bunk in a dorm room.

7 Azzuro Hotel

The Azzurro Hotel has spacious rooms, great staff and modern facilities

Another great option for anyone coming to Angeles for business or pleasure. Azzuro offers spacious rooms, great service and a modern setting. Rates starting from $47 puts it in the upper end of the scale of this list but is still great value for the price and close to the heart of the nightlife action.

6 Grand Central Hotel

When it comes to hotels everyone loves to have a big bathroom. Grand Central has great spacious rooms with grandiose bathrooms perfect for relaxing. On top of this its located in the heart walking street with plenty of bars and restaurants, and boasts great wifi (well great enough for the Philippines). Rates here start at $43 per night which is great value for the facilities on offer.

3 Hotel Royal Amsterdam

It is impossible to be located more central to everything than Hotel Royal Amsterdam. This hotel offers great three-star rooms from $26 a night. 2 Appolonia Royale Hotel

For $20 per night and some of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on, Appolonia offers a great value sanctuary slightly away from the craziness, but still within walking distance. Customer service is fantastic and options for the budget traveler extensive, with cheap facilities such as laundry and food and drink right on their doorstep. An excellent choice for those on a tight budget who don’t want to be jam smack in the middle of Fields Avenue.

1 Red Planet Angeles City

With rooms for as little as $27 dollars you can’t go wrong with this pick

Our crowning glory on this list, located just up the road from Fields Avenue. The modern inside and out of this hotel is sure to drag you in and if that doesn’t then the price of $27 definitely will. For such a price so close to the action and with rooms that are clean, modern and comfortable, this place gets our tick of approval hands-down. Great for all groups, business travellers and families, Red Planet is outrageous value for money.

Also recommended…

This can never be a comprehensive list, and we’re aware that there’s some other great options out there. So in the interests of fairness, here are a few other establishments worthy of mention: Kokomos, Garden View, Clark Imperial, Devera, Orchid Inn Resort, Galaxy…..

Splurge…

Now for those who are coming to Angeles and are not on such a tight budget we have to recommend an absolute institution of a hotel. With rates from around $100 per night, the Angeles Beach Club Hotel offers five-star accommodation and party facilities you could only dream of. A massive swimming pool which hosts regular pool parties, two fantastic restaurants (try the sisig and the tuna tartin) and bars galore, including on the roof where there is a new entertainment complex and, if needed, a helipad. Yes, a helipad. Further description is pretty redundant here, because the ABC really has to be seen to be believed.
