Australian died while swimming in sea at Cebu beach resort

An Australian auto worker drowned in the sea at a beach resort in the town of Compostela, on Cebu Island, yesterday (Tuesday, May 9) afternoon.

Town police chief Junafe Vergara told the SunStar Cebu that the man had been identified as Hector Valls Velasco.

He was found floating lifeless by an employee of the Green Lagoon Breach Resort, in Barangay Canamucan, at 4pm.

Mr Salundaga told the police that the victim smelt of alcohol when they pulled him from the water.

Mr Velasco was rushed to Danao City Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to his Facebook profile, Mr Velasco was a toolmaker at a Toyota plant in Melbourne, Australia.

He was a native of Chile, where he lived at Viña del Mar and studied at the University of Chile.
