The Australian government has confirmed it will support the peace process in Mindanao with $4 millon (AUD) over a three-year period.
The government has stated it will commit itself to promoting development and prosperity in conflict affected regions of Mindanao.
The agreement is a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the Philippine Business for Social Progress Organisation.
The money will also be used for ceasefire monitoring to ensure peace and stability throughout the war-torn regions.
The announcement also said that the contribution will also assist ‘responsible business investment’ in Bangsamoro Autonomous regions of Muslim Mindanao, and will support economic development.
The Australian government also noted it has garnered the support and expertise through the Asia Foundation and International Alert to assist in the peace process with the MILF for the establishment of a Bangsmoro entity that will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
