Ronald Omar Pelletier, aged 70, had failed to tell the US authorities of a change of address, one of the conditions of his parole for possessing child pornography

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will deport a convicted American paedophile after he was arrested in Angeles City for violating the conditions of his parole.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente confirmed today (Tuesday, August 22) that Ronald Omar Pelletier would be sent back to the United States “for being an undesirable and undocumented alien”.

Pelletier’s passport has been cancelled by the US State Department.

Pelletier was arrested on Saturday at his home in Josefa Subdivision, Barangay Malabanias, by officers of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

The 70-year-old is the subject of an arrest warrant by a district court in Florida, which found him guilty of violating his parole by not reporting a change of address.

FSU acting chief Bobby Raquepo said Pelletier was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and five years of supervised release, and also fined $10,000, after he was convicted of possessing child pornography last September.

“It was only last March when authorities learned that he had vacated his last known address, thus prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest,” Mr Raquepo said.

The American arrived in the Philippines on May 20.

Apart from updating the court about any changes of address, Pelletier is also required to participate in a mental health programme for sex offenders, the BI said.

The Florida court also ordered him to desist from having contact with children and from possessing pictures or videos of nude children.

Pelletier is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Taguig pending his deportation.
