An American was one of two people killed in a crash in Sorsogon City — just hours after he had got married.

Police have today (Sunday, November 19) identified the victims of Friday’s deadly road traffic accident as Terry Lee Woodliff, aged 60, and Rolando Belardo, 47.

The two victims died after their Toyota Innova was in collision with an Elavil bus at about 3.45pm. It is believed their vehicle was hit by the fast-moving bus while attempting a U-turn. Eyewitness reports said the bus, which was travelling from Samar to Quezon City, hit and dragged the car along the road for several metres. The driver of the bus and his passengers were unhurt.

Officers of the City Disaster and Response unit and the Bureau of Fire Protection were the first on the scene. The two victims were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Woodliff’s 25-year-old wife Analyn Esperrago Woodliff and an unnamed 12-year-old, a pupil of Buhatan Elementary School, were both critically injured in the smash. Their current condition has not been confirmed, although their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. They remain at Sorsogon Doctors Hospital.

According to GMA News Woodliff, who lives in Muntinlupa City and is originally from Wisconsin, and Analyn, of Purok Macapagal, had got married just hours before. They were on their way to Quezon City when the accident happened.

The 52-year-old driver of the Elavil bus, Rodolfo Inagera Abijay, is facing a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries. He is currently in police custody while investigations into the collision continue.
