The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised the danger level for the Mount Bulusan Volcano to “Alert Level One.”
Just in the last 24-hours ash has shot up 250 metres above the active volcano.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council advised pilots to steer clear of the volcano as such an explosion “can be hazardous to aircraft.”
So far the warnings only effect local Barangays and include Bagsangan, Monbon, Irosin, Cogon and Tinampo in Sorsogon.
Officials also warned people about the ban against entering the 4km radius permanent danger zone imposed around the volcano.
Phivolcs said more explosions are expected and could be sudden and unexpected.
Some evacuations have begun, some 1,000 residents have been evacuated to local shelters due to the recent volcanic activity.
