A 6.5 hectare plot in Cagayan de Oro City will soon change the landscape of the city when a ‘state-of-the-art” 380-million International Health Hospital, Hotel Geriatric and shopping centre is built.

The proposal, funded by the Turkish government, should pass without objection in the northern Mindanao city.

The project will include a shopping centre, a geriatric centre, a transfer hotel, a convention centere and a hospital that will cover about 38,500 square metres – the closed compound will consist of a further 66,000 square metres.

The hospital will consist of 300 patent beds, 50 dialysis beds, 200 geriatric care beds, 45 intensive care unit beds, 15 bed for cardio ICU units and 35 neonatal ICU units, along with nine operating rooms, five cardiovascular surgery rooms, five birthing rooms, two angio-laboratory and one general laboratory.

The project is aimed at establishing a large-scale general hospital that would provide primary and secondary healthcare services to Cagayan de Oro and the surrounding region.

It is expected the project will attract 550,000 outpatients and 65,000 inpatients annually from nearby cities, provinces and municipalities.

The Turkish government has eyes Cagayan de Oro as one of its major places to build such a project – the complex will be a ‘turn-over’ project that will cost the city government nothing.

An larger, in-depth look into the project is needed before final approval – many believe the project would have a massive impact on the city’s economy and health services.

The project will also have a large impact on expats and foreigners looking for a place to retire in the Philippines. The upscale medical facility would attract additional foreign investments and foreigners to the city.
