A 17-year-old girl has been arrested and charged for her part an attempted kidnapping of two young girls in the Tondo area of Manila last week.
Residents of Sandino Street attacked the kidnapper when the grandmother of one the children taken in the attempt sought help from neighbours.
Police say the teenager’s motive was to look for girls who are either on an errand or simply walking on the street unaccompanied.
She then would snatch their money or lure them into a waiting vehicle where they were kidnapped for illicit affairs.
An aunt of the other young girl involved in the incident said they followed the two young girls while they were on the way to the store – the aunt said she saw the girls running, after the suspect had grabbed their money and attempted to take them hostage.
Police investigators are focusing on the identity of a van believed to be involved in the case.
