A 16-year-old boy has been shot dead by a Philippine Marine Sergeant during a religious feast in TayTay in Northern Palawan.
The incident happened on Tuesday. The young boy, Enrique Mendez of Taytay, was shot by Staff Sergeant Alchier Mansing of the 44th Marine Company of the 4th Marine Battalion Landing Team. Mansing is said to be part of the detachment that was sent to secure the celebration of the feast.
Reports say the three men arrived at the festivity and taunted the marine sergeant by showing him plastic sachets of suspected ‘shabu.’ That altercation later led to a struggle and ended in the marine shooting the victim. Mendez was hit on his left shoulder, neck and chest and died at the scene – the two companions fled.
The reports also said that responding policemen recovered from the crime scene some slugs and a caliber .45 pistol. Mansing surrendered to his detachment commander after the shooting.
