Endangered Philippine Eagle Shot Dead in Mount Hamiguitan Preserve – 100k Reward For Killer – www.plnmedia.com

A rare and endangered Philippine Eagle has been shot dead just two months after being released back into the wild by the Philippine Eagle Foundation.

The rare bird, known as Pamana, was the 30th such eagle to be found dead or wounded in a population that numbers only about 800.
The eagle had been captured three years ago when it was discovered with several gunshot wounds – this time around the bird was not so lucky.
The Philippine Eagle resides mostly on the island of Mindanao – the most recent bird to be found dead was found on the forest floor last weekend in Mount Hamiguitan Preserve located in Davao Oriental.
Gunshots have accounted for nine out of every 10 Philippine Eagle casualty recorded by the Philippine Eagle Foundation over the past seven years.
The Swiss-based International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists the species as “critically endangered”, due to the depletion of its tropical rain-forest habitat and hunting.
A 100,000 peso reward is being offered for the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for killing the eagle.
