Ten people including a school teacher and a 15-year-old minor girl were arrested after they were caught sniffing shabu in Danao City on Saturday night.
Poice were responding to an armed person report when the came upon 56-year-old Wifredo Coc-ong, a teacher from a public school in Compostela Valley, and nine others sniffing the illegal drug in an open nippa hut.
Those arrested include Jeneboy Capuyan, 25; Rodney Parato, 23; Jaunito Capuyan, 37; Christopher Peñas, 34; Arnel Pasana, 21; Carlo Ceniza, 21; Alex Manco, 47; and Jonathan Lingatong, 36.
Police said they received a text message through their hotline informing them of an armed person in the same location – after responding to the report they found the group gathered inside the hut, all the suspects were arrested. They were brought to the police station for questioning where Goc-ong revealed he was a teacher.
The 15 year-old-girl, who was bringing two shabu packs when arrested, was also taken into police custody. Aside from the drug paraphernalia, a pack of shabu was recovered from each of the other suspects.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development is currently assessing the minor’s case – if she is found to have acted with discernment, she will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 together with the rest of the suspected users.
